Defense industry companies to get incentives in Northeast Brazil

17/04/2017 at 17:08h

Recife – The Brazilian minister of Defense, Raul Jungmann, met this Monday (17) with industry personnel to present a federal incentives plan to set up defense industry hubs in the state of Pernambuco and in the Brazilian Northeast as a whole. Two major industry players – one Swiss and one Brazilian – showed interest in setting up plants in Pernambuco, but the requirements to be met by the companies are yet to be outlined.

Last week, Raul Jungmann and Pernambuco governor Paulo Câmara signed a protocol of cooperation for developing the industry in the state. Jungmann says he intends to decentralize the industry, which concentrates in South and Southeast Brazil. The protocol should be made broader to encompass other northeastern states. Switzerland’s Ruag and Brazil’s CBC have manifested their willingness to operate from Pernambuco.
