Indicator foretells Brazil labor market pickup

08/08/2017 at 13:53h

Rio de Janeiro – The anticipatory employment indicator (Indicador Antecedente de Emprego) from think tank Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) was up 1.5 point in July to 98.4 after two back-to-back drops. It ranges from zero to 200 and tracks expectations of consumer, industry and services business owners regarding the labor market in months to come.

To date this quarter, however, the indicator slid by 0.7 point. According to FGV, despite having gone down in May and June, the index remains strong, since optimism is widespread regarding job creation in Brazil.
