Retail sales down 0.5%

Rio de Janeiro – Retail sales in Brazil ended August up 0.5% from July as per seasonally adjusted figures, ending a four-month upward streak that saw sales hike by 2.1%.

Monthly trade survey Pesquisa Mensal do Comércio (PME) was released this Wednesday (11) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Despite the drop, the PME was up 0.7% year-to-date through August. In the twelve months through August, it slid by 1.6%.
