Bicycle production up in Brazil

09/03/2018 at 18:42h

São Paulo – Bicycle manufacturers at Amazonas state industry hub Polo Industrial de Manaus made 98,531 units in January and February, up 14% from the year-ago period, the Brazilian Association of Motorcycle, Moped, and Bicycle Manufacturers (Abraciclo) said this Friday (9).

In February alone, however, output dropped by 10.2% year-on-year to 46,320 bicycles. Abraciclo’s vice president for Bicycles, João Ludgero, said the drop was a one-off event caused by the Carnival holidays, and that numbers point to an upward trend in 2018. The association expects output to be up 9% this year from the last one, to roughly 727,000 units.
