Syrians to receive USD 6 bn in donations
In a conference in Brussels, organized by the European Union and United Nations, the attending countries committed to donate the amount throughout 2017.
São Paulo – Representatives from the countries gathered in Brussels, Belgium, have committed to donate USD 6 billion to the Syrian people. The conference, which was organized by the European Union and United Nations (UN) and had the future of Syria as the central topic, ended this Wednesday (5). Over 70 international delegations attended the event.
The announcement detailing the amount of the donation was made by Christos Stylianides, the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, at the end of the conference. The United Arab Emirates announced a donation of USD 68 million, according to announcement made by minister Maytha bint Salem Al Shamsi that was published by news outlet Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The donation by the UAE will be used to support actions focusing on the education and job training of refugees. At the end of last year, the aid offered by the United Arab Emirates to the Syrian people had reached the total of USD 832 million.
