São Paulo – The Itamaraty Palace in Brasília (DF), the headquarters of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will welcome over 150 representatives from 40 African, Latin American and Caribbean countries on Thursday (6) and Friday (7) for the South-South Cooperation Conference on Sustainable Consumption and Production. The secretary general of Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism, Nada Roudies, will be one of the speakers, and representatives from Tunisia will take part on some panels.
The event is organized by the UM Environment and is part of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP). Through this framework, a global framework of action that aims to promote sustainable consumption and production in regional and national levels was created – in the event, the role of South-South cooperation regarding the topic will be discussed.
“The goal of the event is support national and regional development efforts, strengthen institutional and technical capacities, improve the exchange of experience and know-how among developing countries and identifying cooperation opportunities between Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean,” said the UN in a statement.
Potential partnerships in sustainable public procurement, sustainable food systems and efficient use of resources in urban centers will be some of the topics that will be discussed. The lecture by Moroccan Roudies will be on “Mainstreaming sustainable consumption and production in the tourism sector: opportunities for South-South Cooperation.” Morocco hosted COP 22 last year, the UN conference on climate change.
Sarney Filho, Brazil’s minister of Environment, and José Guilherme Barbosa Ribeiro, managing director of the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE), will attend the conference. The complete schedule of the event can be seen here.
