Egyptian university seeking Portuguese teachers
Aswan University is looking for volunteers to work in its Portuguese Department from October of this year to June 2018. Registrations are open until May 10. The university offers a small allowance.
São Paulo – The Aswan University, in Egypt, is seeking Portuguese and Portuguese Language Literature teachers to work for them as volunteers. Three professionals will be picked to give classes in both subjects and will receive an allowance. The university has a preference for women since it has rooms to offer in the women’s housing buildings.
The teachers will work as volunteers in the Portuguese Language Department of the Language College Al Alsun of the Aswan University. The monthly allowance will be 2,600 Egyptian pounds, which, at the current foreign exchange rate, amounts to USD 144. Registrations should be made until May 10 and those selected will work from October 1, 2017 to June 1, 2018.
Those interested in applying must have a major and a master’s degree in Language, with a focus on Portuguese Language or Literature. It’s also important to have basic skills in English and be willing to learn Arabic and Arab cultures. People with experience teaching Portuguese Literature to foreigners will have priority.
The teachers selected will have to prepare and teach classes, formulate and grade exams, cooperate with other teachers in the educational process, formulate at the end of the year a report on their teaching and research activities and take part in sessions to elaborate educational material for the teaching of Portuguese Language Literature.
They will also develop a research project on Portuguese Language Literature. With the permission of the Portuguese Department, they could represent it in academic activities in Egypt and other countries. In all, they will spend 20 hours weekly on teaching, research and academic activities.
In addition to the monthly allowance, Aswan University will offer transportation to the university, a room in the women’s housing building and a certificate of the experience and apprenticeship completion at the Portuguese Department.
