Industrial production down 1.8%

The decline was from February to March. In comparison to March of last year, however, it went up 1.1%.



Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian industrial production declined 1.8% from February to March. According to the Monthly Survey of Industry, made public this Wednesday (3) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the indicator continues without a positive result in 2017 in this type of comparison.

However, production increased 1.1% in comparison to March 2016 and 0.6% year-to-date. Year-over-year, the indicator has declined 3.8%.

Fifteen of the 24 industrial activities surveyed registered a decline in production between February and March, with the sharpest drops being motor vehicles, trailers and bodies (-7.5%), pharmaceuticals (-23.8%) and coke, oil products and biofuels (-3.3%).

Among the nine sectors that increased production in March, food products stood out with 1.3%.
