Soy drives agribusiness exports

Soy and its products accounted for over half of Brazilian agribusiness foreign sales in April, with a 12.6% increase over a year ago.

São Paulo – Soy beans, bran and oil exports from Brazil were up 12.6% year-on-year in April, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply reported this Wednesday (10). These products accounted for over half of the industry’s total foreign sales in both volume and revenue. Exports amounted to 10.4 million tons, fetching USD 4.5 billion in April. Shipped volume was up 3.4%.

Sugar was another export highlight at USD 723.8 million shipped, up 48.8% from a year ago, and shipped volume reached 1.62 million tons, up 6.2%. Meat export revenue dropped by 9.8% to USD 1.08 billion. Exports shrank by 11.2% for poultry and 13.8% for beef.

Total agribusiness export revenue from Brazil reached USD 8.66 billion, up 7.3% from April 2016.
