Consumer confidence dropped in April

Consumer confidence index declined 4.1% last month over March, According to the National Confederation of Retail Managers (CNDL), the negative news coverage and rising unemployment impacted the results.

São Paulo – The Consumer Confidence Index registered 40.5 points in April, below the 42.3 points in March. The survey was conducted by SCP Brasil and the National Confederation of Retail Managers (CNDL). The 4.1% decline reflects a drop in the assessment of both the current and future periods.

“From March to April, the consumer noticed a very negative political news coverage, which reinforced the concern of new instability. In the economic scenario, unemployment continued to rise, contributing to April’s results,” explains CNDL’s president, Honório Pinheiro, in a statement.
