Preliminary inflation the lowest since 2006

The IPCA-15, official preliminar inflation, came in at 0.16% in June, below May’s rate. It’s the lowest percentage for the month since 2006, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Rio de Janeiro – The official preliminary inflation, which is measured by the Extended National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15), came in at 0.16% in June of this year, below the 0.24% rate from May. It’s the lowest preliminary inflation rate since June 2006, when the IPCA-15 was -0.15%.

According to data made public this Friday (23) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), with June’s preliminary rate, the official inflation is now at 3.52% year-over-year. The cumulative rate is the lowest since June 2007 (3.44%).

Among the expenditure groups that drove down the inflation rate in the month are food and beverages, which registered a deflation (price decline) of 0.47% and transportation (-0.10%).
