São Paulo – Passenger traffic in the Dubai International airport, United Arab Emirates, climbed 1.9% in May, with its terminals welcoming 6,850,052 visitors. The information is from Dubai Airports and was published this Monday (3) by the website Arabian Business.

The region with the sharpest passenger growth in the emirate’s airport was South America, with 60% in May in comparison to the same month of 2016. Eastern Europe had increase of 15.5%, with Asia coming in third with 9.7%.

During the first five months of 2017, the Dubai International airport received 36,969,594 passengers, which means an increase of 6.7% over the same period of 2016.

According to the Arabian Business, during May, the average number of passengers per flight in the emirate’s airport was 205, while in May of last year this average was 202. Meanwhile, the number of arrivals and takeoffs reached 34,544 in May of this year, 2.3% less than in May of last year.

The CEO of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, showed optimism over the airport’s numbers. “Considering that we’ve had some record breaking months earlier in the year, including the rush of travellers during the summer Holiday and Eid break last week, we are looking forward to robust growth in the first half,” he said.
