Industrial output up in May

According to a survey conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), there was an increase of 0.8% over April ando f 4% over May of last year.

Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian industrial ouput ended May with a 0.8% growth over April. This is the second consecutive positive rate registered by Brazilian industry, with April posting a 1.1% increase. The data was made available this Tuesday (4) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and was part of the Monthly Survey of Industry – Physical Production Brazil (PIM-PF).

When May’s data is compared to the same month of last year, however, the Brazilian industry registered in May an increase of 4%, the highest cumulative growth for the industry since February 2014.

The cumulative growth rate in the first five months of the year stood at 0.5%. Year-over-year, the industry continues to register a negative result: a decline of 2.4%.
