Chemicals imports increased 6.4%

Foreign purchases of chemical products by Brazil totaled USD 17.2 billion in the year’s first six months, according to data from the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (ABIQUIM).



São Paulo – Chemical products imports by Brazil increased 6.4% in the first six months of this year over the same period of last year, reaching USD 17.2 billion, according to data from the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (ABIQUIM). The increase was driven by purchases of intermediaries for fertilizers (inputs to fertilizers).

The sector’s balance of trade registered a deficit of USD 10.6 billion in the first six months. In the period, exports of chemical products increased 21.1% over January to June of 2016 to USD 6.6 billion.
