Lumber exports go up 7.3%

Foreign sales of lumber, paper and wood pulp increased in the year’s first six months, generating revenues of USD 4 billion to Brazil.



São Paulo – Brazil’s lumber, paper and wood pulp sector increased its exports by 7.3% in the year’s first six months, reaching revenues of USD 4 billion. Wood pulp exports totaled 6.8 million tons of a total output of 9.5 million tons. Foreign sales of wood pulp surged 6.8% compared to 2016’s volume and 42% of this total went to China, which increased its imports by 25.5%.

The data was made available this Monday (31) in São Paulo by the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá). The balance sheet shows that from January to June of this year, exports reached 597,000 cubic meters of lumber, up 34.8% over the same period of 2016, with revenues reaching USD 137 million, up 25.7% from last year’s first six months. Meanwhile, paper foreign sales increase at a slower pace.
