Middle East an attractive market for Duratex

The Brazilian company exports wood panels to the region. Total external sales account for 17% of the company’s revenues in Q2.

São Paulo – Duratex reported that the foreign market was, in part, responsible for its positive performance in Q2. The company had net revenues of BRL 916.7 million (USD 296 million), with BRL 160.2 million (USD 51.74 million) coming from exports, which accounts for 17.5% of the total. Within this amount are included sales to the Middle East and North Africa. The company manufactures wood panels, plus porcelain and metal wares of brands Deca and Hydra.

“This is an attractive consumer market, to which the company exports, basically, wood panels (MDP, MDF and hardboard)”, says the company about the Middle East and North Africa to ANBA. “Duratex considers the region an important one to the export of its products,” added the company via email this Monday (7).

When presenting its Q2 balance sheet last week, Duratex pointed out that exports results were good, especially concerning wood products. External sales increased 7.6% over Q1. However, over Q2 2016, there was a decline of 23.8%.

The company also reported that the EBITDA (Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) stood at 19.4% in Q2 2017, against 15.6% in Q1. The company registered a net profit of BRL 24.8 million (USD 8 million) from April to June, against a loss of BRL 7.5 million (USD 2.42 million) from January to March.

Wood to the Arabs

Brazilian exports of wood and wood products to Arab countries totaled a little over USD 18 million in Q2, up 10.16% over the same period of last year, according to data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC). Saudi Arabia was the leading market in the region from April to June.

Sales of wood panels from Brazil to the region yielded USD 3.75 million in Q2, up 21.2% in comparison to the same period of 2016. Saudi Arabia again was the leading destination in this case.
