Marcopolo exports buses to Qatar

Transportation company QETCO placed an order for 32 units of the Brazilian bus body builder’s Viaggio 900 to shuttle personnel for the state-run company Qatar Petroleum.

São Paulo – The Brazilian bus body builder Marcopolo is selling 32 of its Viaggio 900 buses to the Qatar Express Transport Company (QETCO). The vehicles will be employed in shuttling employees for Qatar Petroleum, the Doha-based, state-run oil and gas exploration, production and refinement company.

The deal comes as a result of Marcopolo’s efforts to regain the Middle East market. Last March, Volare, an arm of conglomerate Grupo Marcopolo, began shipping out 14 minibuses to Dubai Safari Park, in the United Arab Emirates.

“We are very glad to strike yet another deal in Qatar, as the outcome of hard work by all of our export team,” a press release quoted Marcopolo executive manager for international business Ricardo Portolan as saying. “Our goal is to follow through with our successful Conquest exports project, which has enabled Marcopolo to regain clients and markets in this key region.”

The Conquest project, underway since 2016, is meant to broaden Marcopolo’s international client portfolio. Last year saw company delegates travel to over 65 countries across Latin America, Africa and the Middle East to canvas for new opportunities.

The Viaggio 900 units that will carry Qatar Petroleum staff are equipped with 49 executive-type seats, high-capacity air conditioning system, and onboard computers. The 12.5 meter-long buses are built on Scania K410 chassises.
