Brazilian industry grew 0.8% in July

Industrial output increased 0.8% over June, the fourth consecutive expansion in this type of comparison, according to survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).



Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian industrial output expanded 0.8% in July over June of this year. This is the fourth consecutive expansion of the indicator in this type of comparison. In June over May, the increase had been of 0.2%. The data from the Monthly Survey of Industry – Physical Production (PIM-PF) was released this Tuesday (5) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In the comparison with July 2016, industry grew 2.5% and, year-to-date, 0.8%. However, year-over-year, industry output has declined 1.1%.

In July over June, the four major economic categories expanded: durable consumer goods (2.7%), semi and non-durable consumer goods (2%), capital goods, that is, machinery and equipment (1.9%) and intermediate goods, that is, manufactured inputs to the productive sector (0.9%).
