Commodities prices declined in August

Prices went down 2.06% over July, according to a survey by the Brazilian Central Bank (BC). The data considers the price of six Brazilian primary products sold abroad.

Brasília – The price of commodities – primary products internationally quoted – declined in August. The Brazil Commodities Index (IC-Br), surveyed monthly by the Brazilian Central Bank (BC), went down 2.06% compared to July. Year-over-year ending in August, the index climbed 1.06%, and year-to-date it has declined 6.51%.

The IC-Br is calculated based on the variation in reais of the prices of primary products (commodities) internationally quoted. The BC picks the products that are relevant to the price dynamic to Brazil’s consumers. Last month, the prices of the energy sector (oil, natural gas and coal) went up 4.75%, with the price of metals (aluminum, iron ore, copper, tin, zinc, lead and nickel) climbing 7.82%.
