Constructed buildings up 22% in Abu Dhabi

The number of constructed buildings in the emirate reached 913 from April to June, 162 more than in the same period of 2016. Increase in population and the urban growth rate impacted the numbers.



São Paulo – The number of constructed buildings in the emirate of Abu Dhabi reached 913 in this year’s Q2. It’s up 21.6% over the same period of last year, which reached 751. The numbers were published by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) this Thursday (7).

The data is from the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi. According to experts, the growth reflects the urban renaissance seen by Abu Dhabi during the last two decades, plus an increase in population and overall development of the emirate.

The survey points out that residential buildings account for 85.5% of constructed buildings from April to June, with 781 units. Industrial buildings reached 37 units, commercial buildings were 31 and the mixed, residential with commercial, stood at 25. The agricultural sector had only one new building.

The city of Abu Dhabi and surroundings had most of the constructions with 470 units until the end of the quarter, above the 398 from the same period of last year. It was an 18% growth.

The region of Al Ain, also in the emirate, reached 395 constructions, up 23% from the same period of last year. The Al Dhafra region registered 48 constructions from April to June against 32 from, also, the same period of last year, according to the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi.

The average construction cost per square meter varies from region to region within the emirate. For projects of 300 to 599 square meters in the city of Abu Dhabi and surroundings, the cost stood at AED 2,627 (USD 715) per square meter. For the same area, the cost in Al Ain stood at AED 2,564 (USD 698) and in Al Dhafra stood at AED 2,333 (USD 635).
