Brazilians spend more abroad

Spending during international travelling totaled USD 1.745 billion in August, an increase of 35% over the same month of last year.



São Paulo – Spending by Brazilians during international travelling totaled USD 1.745 billion in August, an increase of 35% over the same month of 2016. Year-to-date, spending abroad reached USD 12.429 billion, up 35% over the same period of last year. The data was released this Tuesday (26) by the Brazilian Central Bank (BC).

On the other hand, spending by foreigners in Brazil totaled USD 455 million, down 24.4% in comparison to August of last year. From January to August, spending by foreigners reached USD 3.954 billion, a decline of 6.4% over the same period of 2016.

With these results, net expenditure in the international travel account reached near USD 1.3 billion in August, an increase of 82% over the same month of last year. Year-to-date, net spending reached USD 8.476 billion, up 70.8% over the first eight months of 2016.
