Petra, Christ the Redeemer in agreement

Jordanians and Brazilians in charge of the two landmarks have signed on to a document to encourage cooperation in tourism.

District of Petra, Jordan – The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), in Jordan, and the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro have entered into a cooperation agreement involving the city of Petra, a heritage site that’s the symbol of the Arab country, and the statue of Christ the Redeemer, the ultimate postcard image of Rio. Petra reported this Wednesday (04) that the goal is to promote Brazil and Jordan as tourist destinations in each country.

According to Petra, PDTRA chief commissioner Mohammad Nawafleh said his country is working to boost its tourism industry, and that he believes the agreement will open up new vistas for Brazil-Jordan cooperation. Both landmarks are in the list of New Seven Wonders of the World.

Attending the signing of the deal besides Nawafleh were Rio archbishop Dom Orani Tempesta, Jordan ambassador to Brasília Malek Twal, and dean of the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, priest Omar Raposo, according to the official website of the Rio landmark.
