Inflation rate at 0.16% in September

The National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) ended last month below the 0.19% seen in August. From January to September, price increase in Brazil reached 1.78%.



Rio de Janeiro – The inflation rate, as measured by the Extended National Price Consumer Index (IPCA) ended September at 0.16%, below the 0.19% seen in August. In the first nine months of the year, the index reached 1.78%, well below the 5.51% registered in the same period of 2016. This is the lowest inflation rate from January to September since 1998, when it stood at 1.42%.

The IPCA, the country’s official inflation rate, was released this Friday (6) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Year-over-year, the index reached 2.54%, above the 2.46% seen in the previous 12 months.
