Tunisair’s passenger traffic up 11%

Tunisia’s main airline carried 280,500 people last month. The tourism sector’s recovery in the Arab country contributed to the increase in demand.

Tunis – Tunisair, the main airline of Tunisia, registered an increase of 11.3% in passenger traffic in October in comparison to the same month of last year. The airline’s aircrafts carried 280,500 people last month, against 252,100 people in October 2016.

The information was published by the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) on Friday (3) based on the data made public by the airline. Regular traffic increased 6.1% in the period, reaching 264,300 passengers, while charter flights carried 16,200 people, a stunning increase of 74.7%.

According to Tunisair, the hike in the number of passengers of charter flights was driven by the recovery of the country’s tourism sector.

European consumers accounted for 79.1% of Tunisair passengers in October. Compared to last year’s same month, demand from European countries increased 5.4%, according to TAP.

African countries registered a growth of 12.2% in volume, accounting for 13.2% of total passengers carried by the airline. At last, passengers from Middle East countries, which account for 6.7% of the total, increased 4.5% in number in the period.
