Dubai Air Show: USD 114 billion in deals

Such is the total value of contracts announced during the aerospace industry exhibition which ended this Thursday in the United Arab Emirates.



São Paulo – Contracts announced during the Dubai Air Show came out to a combined USD 113.8 billion, the organizers of the expo that ended this Thursday (16) have said. The show began on Sunday (12). Visitor numbers were up 20% from the last edition, held in 2015, to 79,380 people.

Some mega orders were made public during the show, including one from Indigo Partners to Airbus, for 430 A320neo airliners, in a USD 49.5 billion deal that’s the biggest order yet received by the European plane maker. Indigo, a US-based private equity firm, has controlling interests in four low-cost carriers – Wizz Air, in Hungary, Frontier Airlines, in the USA, JetSMART, in Chile, and Volaris, in Mexico.

Boeing, in turn, struck a USD 27 billion deal for the sale of 225 of its 737 MAX aircraft to the UAE’s Flydubai, in the biggest order for single-aisle planes by a Middle East airline yet.
