Palestine embassy gathers signatures for Jerusalem

The diplomatic representation will welcome supporters on December 21 and 22 to sign a book in solidarity of keeping Jerusalem the capital of the Palestinian state.

São Paulo – The Embassy of Palestine in Brasília will open its doors next Thursday (21) and Friday (22) morning so people can sign their names on a list of supporters of keeping Jerusalem the capital of Palestine. From 10 am to noon, those looking to express their hopes for peace and harmony between the states of Palestine and Israel can show up at the embassy and sign the book, which will be submitted to the Palestinian government.

Palestine ambassador Ibrahim Alzeben said the event is meant as a response to United States president Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel, and to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the would-be new capital.

“This decision was met with global backlash, since it breaches international law as well as the national law of Palestine, whose capital, East Jerusalem, has been under occupation for several years now,” the ambassador told ANBA.

Alzeben said he received several expressions of solidarity and support to the Palestinian people from across Brazil and other Latin American countries. “That is why we created this Book of Solidarity, so that those who are friends to the Palestinian cause, those who champion peace and a two-state solution can subscribe,” he said.

Anyone wishing to sign the book can go to the Embassy in Brasília, at address SEN Lote 46, Asa Norte, from 10 am to noon. “We are grateful for any kind of support or expression of solidarity and a wish for peace and harmony. What we wish for is peaceful coexistence between the two states, and the recognition that East Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.”
