New Year’s Eve out in the sea in Dubai

Over 1,000 yachts are expected to flock to the emirate’s shore to celebrate the beginning of 2018. The 'Sea Dubai' initiative is designed to establish the city as a yachting destination.

São Paulo – More than 1,000 yachts are expected to line the Dubai shore for the New Year’s Eve Yacht Gathering 2018, a three-day celebration, Arabian Business reported.

The event is part of Sea Dubai, an initiative designed by the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) to establish the emirate as a maritime tourism and leisure hub. Twelve public and private organizations are participating and supporting the event, including the Dubai Police and Kleindienst Group.

“The New Year’s yacht gathering will further enhance Dubai’s competitiveness on the world’s maritime tourism map”, said DP World Group chairman & CEO and chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem. “We have now more diversified tourism product offering, and with bold initiatives like Sea Dubai we can expect more success and growth in 2018 and beyond.”

Kleindienst Group chairman Josef Kleindienst said the real estate developer’s Floating Seahorse houses will be the “center stage” for light shows and music during the event.

“As a developer, the Kleindienst Group’s ambition aligns with Dubai’s vision to be a leading global destination and home of innovation as the world’s most forward-thinking city,” he said. “We congratulate DMCA for this initiative and the professional organization to make Dubai one of the world’s leading and most advanced maritime destinations.”

DMCA executive director of operations Ali Al Daboos said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to fast-track marine leisure sector growth as “a key pillar for consolidating the leadership of the local maritime community as one of the most competitive and attractive in the world.”

The event will run from December 29 to 31, from 11 am to 2 am.
