Morocco’s aeronautics industry set to grow

The sector is expected to see a turnover of USD 2.9 billion and to add 23,000 new jobs by 2020, according to the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy.

São Paulo – The Moroccan aeronautics industry should see a USD 2.9 billion turnover by 2020, Moroccan News Agency (MAP) quoted its minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy Moulay Hafid Elalamy as saying.

International industry players including Boeing, Bombardier, Airbus, Safran, Thales and Hexel Composite are active in Morocco. The industry accounts for some 15,000 jobs, with 23,000 new ones expected to be added by 2020.

Elalamy said aeronautics grew by 16% last year, and that should increase to as much as 20% over the next two years. The industry thrived during the last decade as it went from a handful to 130-plus countries.

Last year, Morocco’s government entered into a deal with Boeing that’s designed to attract suppliers into the country, and thereby increase exports from the country. This is expected to add 8,700 new jobs.

This month, carrier Royal Air Maroc said it placed an order for four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, in a USD 1.1 billion deal with delivery expected in late 2018.
