Last year was the safest ever for aviation

According to the Aviation Safety Network, there were no fatal victims in flights by major airlines in 2017.

São Paulo – Last year was the safest in aviation history. There were no fatal victims in flights by major commercial airlines, the Netherlands’ Aviation Safety Network said this Tuesday (2) in Brussels.

Factoring in small aircraft 14-seater or bigger and cargo flights, 10 fatal airline accidents took place in 2017, killing 44 people in flight and 35 on the ground, with total flights estimated at 36.8 million worldwide. In 2016, the Aviation Safety Network reported 16 accidents, which claimed 303 lives.

The data do not include military accidents, and are expected to be confirmed in 2018 by the International Air Travel Association (Iata).
