Saudi women to enter stadium for 1st time

Local teams Al-Ahli and Al-Batin wil play the first-ever soccer match that Saudi Arabian females will be allowed to attend, in the capital Riyadh next Friday.

São Paulo – Friday (12) will be the first time in history that a Saudi Arabian sports stadium will open its doors for women to watch a soccer match, the Saudi government has announced. The information was made public by Riyadh newspaper Arab News.

A press release quoted the Saudi minister of Information as saying this Monday (8) that the match will be played by local teams Al-Ahli and Al-Batin, in Riyadh.

Women will also be allowed to see games on the 13th in Jeddah and on the 18th in Dammam.

The easing of social control is part of crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s Vision 2030 plan, designed to rework Saudi Arabia into a more moderate, welcoming country.
