Market forecasts 3.95% inflation

The Focus Bulletin released this Monday (15) by the Brazilian Central Bank includes a lower price hike expectation and a likelihood of stronger GDP growth.



Brasília – Inflation in Brazil, gauged by the National Consumer Price Index (IPCA, in the Portuguese acronym) should be 3.95% this year. The forecast is from financial market players polled by the Brazilian Central Bank for its weekly Focus Bulletin, which it released this Monday (15). The IPCA forecast is marginally down from that of a month ago, which had been 4%. The 2019 forecast is 4.25%.

GDP is now seen widening by 2.7% this year – last month’s projection had been 2.64%. In 2019, GDP is expected to be up 2.8% from 2018.

The benchmark interest rate is expected to end the year at 6.75%. A month ago, the rate was seen ending the year at 7%. The current rate is 6.9%.
