Qatari operator purchased Paradiso 1200 and Torino buses

São Paulo – Qatar’s charter bus operator MBM Transport placed an order for 37 buses by Marcopolo, the manufacturer from Caxias do Sul (RS), Brazil which has been securing more and more export deals to Arab countries. The Qatari company ordered 26 units of Marcopolo’s Paradiso 1200 highway bus model and 11 units of its Torino urban bus.

“What sets this deal apart is the fact that 12 Paradiso 1200 units will feature fully reclinable seats. This is the first time a Qatari buyer requests this seat configuration in the charter industry,” a statement quoted Marcopolo’s executive manager for international business Ricardo Portolan as saying.

The 12.5-meter-long Paradiso 1200 is available with either fully reclinable seats and 25 passenger capacity or in a semi-reclinable configuration that can seat as many as 40 passengers. Its features include a Volvo B11R chassis, two doors, bonded windows, high-capacity air conditioning and surveillance cameras.

The Torino buses will shuttle Shell staff in Qatar. Featuring a Volvo B7R Low Entry chassis, they are 12 meters long with 37 cushioned seats.

Portolan said Marcopolo is being able to remain competitive at an international level as well as regain past markets and clients. “Over the last two years we struck major deals with operators in Arab countries. This is the outcome of all the hard work done by our export team,” he explained.

Last year saw Marcopolo sell 32 units of its Viaggio 900 to QETCO, another charter company in Qatar, which is deploying the buses to shuttle personnel for the state-run Qatar Petroleum. Another deal came via Marcopolo subsidiary Volare: 14 light minibuses were purchased by the Dubai Safari Park, in the United Arab Emirates.
