Global unemployment could drop in 2018

A report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) forecasts a decline of 0.1 percentage point in the global unemployment rate.

São Paulo – After four years of consecutive increase, the global unemployment rate should decline in 2018 and stand at 5.5%, against the estimated 5.6% for 2017. The data is part of the World Employment and Social Outlook – Trends 2018, released by the International Labor Organization (ILO) this Monday (22).

The report by the United Nations (UN) agency estimates that there are over 192 million unemployed people in the world.

The forecast for Brazil is for the creation of, at least, 900,000 jobs, reducing the number of the unemployed from 13.4 million in 2017 to 12.5 million in 2018. In case the ILO’s forecasts come through, it will be the first decline in the country’s unemployment rates since 2014.
