Industry shows recovery

Survey by CNI shows an improved performance in December 2017 than in the same month of the two previous years. Corporate sector shows more positive expectations.

Rio de Janeiro – The average utilization of the Brazilian industry’s installed capacity reached 64% in December of last year, reported this Wednesday (24) the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), which considered the data from the end of the year as indicators of a recovery trajectory. The percentage stood above the one registered in the same month of 2016, which was 63%, and of 2015, which was 68%.

CNI explains that it’s common for production to drop in December, with the end of orders for the holiday parties, but, in 2017, this decline was milder. The index that measures the production variation in comparison to the previous month reached 42.4 points in December, in a 0-to-100 scale in which any value under 50 points represents a decline. The result is the best one for the month since 2011.

Meanwhile, the CNI’s indicators that measure corporate expectations increased in January, said the organization. The intention to invest, for instance, reached its highest value since May 2014, with 53 points.
