Refugees need to inform trips via website

Registration should be made online at the Ministry of Justice’s website. Before, the procedure was made via email.

São Paulo – Refugees and asylum seekers in Brazil must inform trips abroad via the Ministry of Justice’s website, said the ministry this Thursday (25). Before, the procedure was made via email.

To inform about a trip is required of asylum seekers that wish to leave Brazil during the asylum procedures. For those that already gained refugee status, an authorization to travel issued by the National Committee for Refugees (Conare), a body of the Ministry of Justice, is needed.

This authorization must be requested with a minimum notice of 60 days before the trip. Without Conare’s authorization, the person travelling abroad can lose its refugee status. The asylum seekers can only leave the country once, for a maximum period of 90 days, under the penalty of termination of the procedure.
