Medtech industry association organizes mission to Dubai

The industry of healthcare equipment, via the program Brazilian Health Devices, a partnership with Apex-Brasil, will take business owners to the UAE.

São Paulo – The program Brazilian Health Devices, a partnership between the Brazilian Medical Devices Manufacturers Association (ABIMO) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), is open for registration to companies interested in taking part in a mission to Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

Renewed in November of last year, Brazilian Health Devices aims to encourage exports by the healthcare equipment industry, including dental products. Between 2018 and 2019, the project will invest BRL 27 million (USD 8.83 million) in actions such as participations in international trade shows, buyer projects and missions to other countries. The Arab market is one of the project’s targets.

The mission will take place between April 22 and May 1. It will start in Tehran, Iran, and later heads to Dubai, UAE, where business matchmaking and visits to potential partners are scheduled.

In addition to the UAE, the program aims to do business in other Arab countries of the region, as explained to ANBA, in December, at the time of the renewal of the project, by Clara Porto, ABIMO’s export and marketing manager. “We will invite companies from Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the entire Gulf to our meetings,” she said.

According to ABIMO, the Middle East accounts for 10% to 15% of the project Brazilian Health Devices, which currently includes 150 Brazilian companies. “The Middle East is a market with strong buying potential, and it’s very welcoming of Brazilian products and the Brazilian deal-making style,” said the executive in December.

Last year, Brazil exported USD 4.46 million in products from the sector to Arab countries, according to data by the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, compiled by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. The amount surpassed in 10.4% 2016’s results. The UAE and Saudi Arabia were the main destinations in the region: together, they bought USD 3.77 million.
