Banks revise down GDP growth forecast

The financial market revised down its Brazilian economy growth forecast for 2018, from 2.7% to 2.66%.



Brasília – The financial market revised down its forecast for Brazil’s growth in 2018 to 2.66%. Until last week, the growth forecast for the Gross Domestic Product for this year stood at 2.7%.

The forecast is part of the Focus bulletin, released this Monday (29) by the website of the Brazilian Central Bank (BC) with estimates for the main economic indicators. For four consecutive weeks, the forecast pointed to a growth of 2.7% for 2018. The market’s forecast is below the growth expected by the government for this year, which is of 3%.

Meanwhile, the forecast for the inflation, as measured by the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), remains at 3.95% for this year, the same as last week. For the benchmark interest rates, the Selic, the forecast, stands at 6.75% per year, which remains unchanged for the last four weeks.
