Unemployment rate reached 12.7% in 2017

The year’s average rate was the highest of the historical series that started in 2012. In 2016, the indicator reached 11.5%.



São Paulo – The average unemployment rate in 2017 reached 12.7%, according to data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD Contínua) released this Wednesday (31) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This was the highest the index has reached in the historical series that started in 2012. In 2016, the unemployment rate stood at 11.5%.

In the year’s last quarter, the unemployment rate reached 11.8%. In 2017’s Q3, it was 12.4%. In the last quarter of 2016, it was of 12%.

The number of unemployed people reached 13.2 million in the year’s average, up 12.5% in comparison to the average of the previous year (11.7 million). On the other hand, the number of employed reached 90.65 million, that is, 0.3% more than in 2016 (90.38 million).

O rendimento médio mensal habitual de todos os trabalhos subiu 2,4%, passando de R$ 2.091 em 2016 para R$ 2.141 em 2017. Já massa de rendimento habitual cresceu 2,6%, ao passar de R$ 184,3 bilhões em 2016 para R$ 189,1 bilhões no ano passado.

The average regular monthly income of all jobs went up 2.4%, going from BRL 2,091 (USD 679.78) to BRL 2,141 (USD 696.04). Wage increased 2.6%, going from BRL 184.3 billion (USD 5.95 billion) to BRL 184.3 (USD 59.92) billion in the last year.
