Mission of Brazil to UN visits Lebanon

Minister counsellor of the permanent Brazilian mission to the United Nations visited the Arab country and watched presentations on the work done by Brazil’s Navy, which runs the peace force in Lebanon.



São Paulo – The military counsellor of the Brazilian permanent mission to the United Nations (UN), general Gerson Menandro Garcia de Freitas, got to know better the work done by Brazil’s Navy in Lebanon last week. Brazil’s military heads the peacekeeping mission of the Maritime Task Force of the United Nations Interim Force (Unifil) in Lebanon, and its members met with Freitas.

The general watched presentations on the participation of Brazil’s Navy in the peacekeeping mission, met with the group’s members and leaders, visited Unifil’s headquarters in Naqoura and talked about Brazil’s permanent mission to the UN, among other activities. He stayed in Lebanon for official obligations on January 23 and 24.

The Maritime Task Force has been run by Brazil’s Navy since 2011 and its mission is to execute operation of maritime interdictions, aiming to prevent the entry of arms and smuggling in Lebanese territory and to support the training of the local Navy.
