Drawings contest for expat children

Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organizing the 7th edition of ‘Little Brazilians around the World’, a drawings contest to 6-to-12-year-old Brazilian kids living abroad. Registrations are open until May 7.

São Paulo – Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) launched, at the end of January, another edition of a contest of children’s drawings for Brazilian children living in other countries. This year’s theme is “What I want to be when I grow up.” Registrations opened on January 29 and the drawings can be sent until May 7.

The initiative is by the Undersecretariat General for Brazilian Communities Abroad, linked to Itamaraty, and is in its 7th edition. The competition aims to promote and publish the interest in Brazil and in Brazilian culture among Brazilian children living abroad.

In the last edition, children from 18 countries, among them the United Arab Emirates and Palestine (Arabs), according to the organization. The winners came from Germany, United Kingdom, Japan, France, Portugal, Italy, United States and Switzerland.

The contest is divided in three categories and is open to children from six to 12 years old. The 10 best drawing will be selected in each of the categories: six to seven years old, eight to nine years old, and ten to twelve years old.

Registrations need to be made via internet, but the drawing need to be delivered, in an envelope, to the Brazilian embassy in the country that the child is living in until May 7. The results will be announced until October 30, according to Itamaraty.

To register, the children needs to give their home address and the copy of a document that prove they are living abroad, plus other information. Schools and associations can register a group of students, but the drawings need to be done individually. Each child can only submit one drawing.

The drawings can be made with any material, except pencil – watercolor, gouache, felt pen, etc –, and using many techniques, among them collages. The drawings must be turned in a A3 drawing paper. The drawing must be original. Those selected will win games, toys and books.
