January: inflation rises at slower pace

Prices rose 0.29% last month, at a lower percentage if compared to both December and January of 2017.



Rio de Janeiro – The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the index of Brazil’s official inflation rate, went up 0.29% in January of this year. In December of 2017, it had gone up 0.44%. And in January of 2017, it had increased 0.38%.

This is the lowest inflation rate for a January since the beginning of Plano Real, in 1994.

The data was released this Thursday (8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Year-over-year, the inflation rate stands at 2.86%.
