Flydubai sees profits hike and record of passengers

The UAE budget carrier registered an increase in profits and revenue in 2017. The airline carried 10.9 million people.

São Paulo – Flydubai, the United Arab Emirates -based budget carrier, saw its profits surge 17.44% and carried a record number of passengers last year, according to results released this Wednesday (21) by the company and published by Arab news outlets.

The airline’s profit reached AED 37.3 million (USD 10.16 million) in 2017. Last year, it was of USD 8.6 million. Revenues also went up 9.2%, from AED 5 billion (USD 1.27 billion) to AED 5.5 billion (USD 1.5 billion).

Flydubai carried 10.9 million passengers last year, an increase of 5.5% over 2016, when the number of passengers reached 10.4 million.

Flydubai’s president, Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said that the result shows the crucial role of the carrier in the development of trade and tourism in the UAE. He said that, last year, Flydubai made its third and now largest aircraft order, making it clear the ambitions of the airline.

New Boeings 737 MAX will be added to the airline’s fleet in the next few years, improving fuel efficiency. The company ordered 225 of these aircrafts last year, distributed in 175 firm orders and 50 options.

According to Flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, oil prices continue to allow a balance between prices, profits and increase in the number of passengers.
