E-visa simplifies entry in Brazil

According to data from Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), released by the Ministry of Tourism, 72% of the visas issued to citizens from the US, Australia, Canada and Japan in February were e-visas.

São Paulo – In February, Brazil issued 25,604 visas to citizens from the United States, Australia, Canada and Japan, according to data from the Itamaraty released by the Ministry of Tourism. These countries were included in the government’s measure to issue visas online. The total amount of visas issued includes traditional and online visas – 72% of this total were e-visas. The North Americans were the group that most applied for the online visas.

The approval of the e-visa was an effort to reach the goal of attracting 12 million foreign tourists to Brazil until 2022 and is among the measures created by the Brasil + Turismo, a program created by the Ministry of Tourism to encourage the tourism sector. Since the e-visa went into effect in November, Brazil already issued 24,553 online visas to the four countries included.
