Tunisair passenger numbers up 9.5%

The Tunisian airline carried 221,492 travelers in February. Its destinations in Europe were the busiest ones.

Tunis – Tunisian airline Tunisair saw passenger numbers go up 9.5% year-on-year in February to 221,492, Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported this Thursday (8).

Regular traffic climbed 9.9% to 214,418 passengers, with charter flights handling 6,427 passengers due to the Umrah, the small pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims do outside the period of the Hajj, a major annual pilgrimage.

Flight occupancy rates reached 72.6%, up one percentage point from February 2017. Routes to European countries accounted for 68.9% of traffic, up 4.6% year-on-year.

Flights to African countries accounted for 16.9% of total Tunisair flights, up 27.5%, and Middle East flights answered to 13.4%, up 19.3% from February 2017. Flights to North America made up 0.8% of total flights for the carrier, whose only destination in the region is Montreal, Canada.
