Chamber launches Arabic manual for Brazilians
The book, which includes CDs containing basic notions of the language, was written by the Foreign Relations vice president at the organisation, Helmi Nasr, founder of the Arabic course at USP.
Professor Nasr used the same technique he used to apply to his students
The president at the organisation, Antonio Sarkis Jr., stated that the official launch should take place by next week.
The manual contains words and expressions in Portuguese, along with their translations into Arabic, in the Arabic and international phonetic alphabets. The book includes two CDs with the same words spoken in Portuguese by news reporter Cid Moreira, from the Rede Globo television network, and in Arabic by Nasr himself. The aim is to show readers the correct pronunciation.
Professor quipped that he would apply an Arabic test to journalists
In order to write the book, he used the same technique that he applied to his students in the classroom. "What is new is the fact that now, instead of cassettes, the book comes with CDs," said the Professor. The original audio was recovered, remastered and converted into digital format.
According to Nasr, expansion of trade relations between Brazil and the Arab countries also led to an increase in the number of people interested in learning a little more about the language, and this demand reached the Arab Brazilian Chamber. "That was when we decided to reissue the book," he asserted.
The book comes with two CDs
His work led the World Muslim League to invite him to be part of the executive board at the International Meeting of Muslim Scholars and Thinkers, a gathering of Muslim thinkers from all over the world to discuss Islamic society. Nasr is the first representative from Latin America.

Hello,
I am writing to introduce our Arabic language teaching website
www.coffeebreaklessons.com to find out if we could have a feature
about our innovative approach to teach conversational Arabic.
A recent article in Time Out magazine about coffeebreaklessons.com
could give you more insight into the services that we provide:
http://www.timeoutdubai.com/community/features/8694-learn-arabic
To assist with the feature we could also provide a transcript covering
the below mentioned topics:
- Why we think there is a need for Arabic conversational lessons
- What's unique about Coffeebreaklessons.com
- Challenges with the Arabic language
- Which Arabic dialect is taught
- Teaching method
- Cultural information
- Development of the website
- Future development of the language teaching service
Please let me know whether there is an interest from your part.
Many thanks
Claire Ramsey
